Astronomy

We are still trying the 'Get Owen up early boot camp' approach. Currently we are finding that if we keep him busy and organise everything for him, he seems less stressed out and is likely to just do it, instead of arguing.  Have no idea how long this strategy will work ..PDA/ASD is like that.

He cares for his giant snail, showers ( in a fashion) and learns about astronomy, mainly concentrating on Caroline and Willian Herschel.

Later he works from his French book.

Then plays with friends online whilst I get Sam ready. Sam is struggling with his new medication, so is rather teary. We make pain au chocolate and he gets his word book out. It's slow going with him as he's not himself at all. The cut in his head is distracting him and he seems very tired.

After this I get our Osmo kit out and we play word games together. He brightens up and we have many good games.

After lunch we head over to see our friends and come back in time for dinner.

Owen is got up early again, he complains bitterly, but we are definitely seeing a much reduced level of anxiety since he's up and busy. After doing his pet and breakfast he settles into watching some Crash Course Documentaries studying the film industry and history of filmmaking. He watches lessons 1-6 in the series.

Sam arrives and watches some Of the Crash Course series on Ancient Games, which moves through to gaming as we know it today.

After this Sam watches Planet Earth - Fresh Water and Owen decides to work on Osmo Masterpiece.

He makes a few pictures of Bender. He's not happy because his hands are so unsteady still but I think his drawings are awesome.

Sam wanted to work in Osmo too, so he chose the Newton application. He's at level 38+ and it really is getting quite challenging now. He has to apply logic and physics principles to complete the levels. He spent quite a long time figuring it all out.

I have also been putting some feelers out about a career path Owen is interested in. We were both excited to hear back from one manager this week, who is keen for Owen to come in to his work place and have a look round. We have been explaining to Owen that if he finds something he's passionate about, we will tailor his home ed to reflect that. So this visit is going to be a learning curve for all of us. Owen was very excited at the prospect, which is really lovely to see at the moment.

The boys attended their ju-jitsu class in the evening and the following morning Owen got up very excited do to there being a new release on his current fav game. So he was keen to get his work finished early so he could speak to his friend and compare notes.

He started by doing some drawings,

Then Algebra ( shudders)

He did OK on this one but the next section was challenging.

I think we have a bit to learn in this section yet. Still he managed to scrape 72% out of it. Neither of us are convinced by our current ability though!

Sam worked on integers:

Then did some drawing and coin rubbing

He ended up making a little picture story about digging for coins.

I went out for a run before Blokey went to work, then did maths with the children.

Following on from that we did life skills. Which they are getting so much better so doing on their own with minimal supervision. It's a huge help to me too and we all feel better when things are tidier...I am hoping their partners will thank me for it one day.

As it was nice outside we worked in the garden, then stopped for lunch. We all then did our own thing in the afternoon playing with friends and reading.

The next day I was away for the weekend so the menfolk we home alone and left to their own devices. They had pizza and ayes games together. Sam went to the park too.
